Fencing on the Isle of Wight
Solent Swords is the Isle of Wight’s only established fencing club.
During September–July, we meet at 7pm–8pm (juniors) and 8pm–10pm (adults) every Wednesday, at the Fairway Sports Complex attached to Sandown High School. During August and Christmas, our meeting dates alter – see the panel on the left for details of the next Club Night. (View map)
We welcome new members and visiting fencers of all standards (minimum age 7). So if you’re an islander who would like to learn this unique physical and mental discipline, or you’re visiting the island and would like an evening on the piste, why not drop in on Wednesday?
The club caters for foil, epee and sabre, and we can supply appropriate equipment and protective clothing for men, women and children over 12. All you will need to bring is appropriate sports-hall footwear, such as training shoes.
Our attendance fees are:
- £3 per evening for adults
- £2 per evening for children (7+), OAPs and the unwaged
But for newcomers your first session is free!
